Department of Business Information Systems Outstanding Alumni Award
Drew Flint, B.B.A.’94
Distinguished Engineer, Rockwell Automation
Drew Flint has been designing, building and maintaining infrastructure for 30 years. In 1995, he became one of the five founding members of Plexus. As Plexus grew to become Plex Systems (Plex), Flint transitioned from system administrator to director of infrastructure to senior director of infrastructure. He is now a distinguished engineer at Rockwell Automation.
Flint has been integral to developing proprietary infrastructure solutions that are still in use today. These include automated database server installation and configuration, automated SQL Server index maintenance, always available reporting database servers, and a first-of-its-kind horizontal scalability solution known as N-Scale. Flint has mentored engineers and managers in every career stage. He was honored four times with the Plex Teamwork Award, an award given to employees who have delivered successful large-scale, cross-functional team projects.
Flint’s passion for technology continues to this day, and he embraces the challenge of making a system scale while also keeping the elegance and value of a working system top of mind.
Outside of work, Flint shows this same emphasis on excellence and compassion for others, helping stock and collect boxes for Operation Christmas Child, volunteering at the City of Flint Salvation Army Christmas Town Store and his local church, and assistant coaching for his youngest daughter’s soccer team.
