What is the most rewarding and the most challenging part of your job?

While serving individuals who have developmental disabilities and mental impairments, as a Social Worker, it is very rewarding to witness the growth of the clients served.     Due to the fact that I serve on an interdisciplinary team, it can be very challenging when having to wait on the productivity of others in order to complete your job as a clinician.

What experiences impacted the choice of your career path?

While pursuing my MSW 51¸£ÀûÉç Michigan University, I had the opportunity to study abroad in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Studying abroad was a very unique experience because I was afforded the opportunity to be stretched outside of my comfort zone while challenging my perspective on life and culture. In addition to that, studying abroad provided the opportunity to serve impoverished communities while investing my time and knowledge. My career and perspective as a Social Worker was challenged and shifted post-this experience - I gained a greater appreciate for culture and the individuals being served.

What advice would you offer students to help them decide on a career path?

While pursuing your degree and trying to decide on a career path, I would recommend that students become aware of their own passion. Identifying the population that you are passionate about can assist you while you modify your options. In addition to that, after a few options are identified, I would then pursue one of the options as an internship opportunity – this will then provide hands-on experience and determine if this is an appropriate career field as you proceed.
