Bronco Spotlight: Lexus Ramsey
Sale Development Representative at Whirlpool Corporation
I serve as a consultant to trade customers to help them improve profitability through increased sales, volume, and product training that I provide to their sales associates. I also capture and communicate customer, associate, and competitive insights.
What is the most rewarding and the most challenging part of your job?
The most rewarding things about my job is providing professional selling and product training to sales associates. Most of the people I interact with are commission sales professionals, so not only do I effect my companies’ profits, I help others increase their sales numbers, and improve their livelihood. Whirlpool Corporation is also very involved with Habitat with Humanity. For every house we build, we donate a suite of appliance to the owners of that new home. The satisfaction of knowing that I'm helping someone else is also extremely rewarding. The most challenging part of my job is being responsible for over 50 retailers and hundreds of sales associates. Having responsibility over that many people can be overwhelming at times.
What experiences impacted the choice of your career path?
I studied communication during my time at 51¸£ÀûÉç, but after participating in the German Business and Culture study abroad course with marketing professor, Dr. Jim Eckert, I was sold on the career possibilities in the sales and marketing field. My goal is to become an international marketing professional one day. Over time, I plan on levering my skills in communication and multimedia in the marketing field once I become established as a sales professional.
What advice would you offer students to help them decide on a career path?
Be open to a wide variety of careers. When I started my college career I wanted to be a journalist. When I graduated from 51¸£ÀûÉç I started a career in Community Relations, and I now work in sales. I believe that you don't truly know what you want to do with your life until you try things out. Your first job is the first step in this long process we call life. You won't land your dream job right away, but with hard work and diligence you will eventually reach your goals.
