WORLD TRADE ORGANIZATION STATS
WORLD TRADE ORGANIZATION STATS (WTO STATS) – WORLD TRADE ORGANIZATION
OVERVIEW
The World Trade Organization (WTO) is the sole global organization overseeing trade rules between nations. It operates based on agreements negotiated and signed by most trading nations, aiming to facilitate smooth, predictable, and free trade. WTO provides access to data on trade flows, tariffs, non-tariff measures (NTMs) and trade in value added.

Scenario
Suppose you want to analyze non-tariff measures between reporting economies (Australia, Brazil, Canada, India, etc.) and partner economies (Indonesia, Malaysia, United Kingdom, etc). Let’s say you want to analyze the trend of Countervailing Duties (CVD) measures initiated by partner economies against selected reporting economies in the area of international trade which spans from 2015 to 2020.
Countervailing duties are retaliating tariffs imposed by a country to offset the competitive advantage gained by subsidized goods from another country.
Step-by-step
1. Visit the World Trade Organization website by clicking on
2. Move the mouse pointer to “Documents, data, and resources” and click on “WTO STAT”.
3. After clicking on “WTO STAT”, this is how the new window would appear.
4. From the “Selection” pane, choose the appropriate indicator (in this case, we are choosing non-tariff measures indicators). You could also use the “Filter” to find an indicator of your choice.
5. Select reporting economies (countries) of your choice by checking the box. You can also use the “Filter” to select reporting economies.
6. Select “Animal Products” from “Products/Sectors”. Note; you only select a product that fits into your analysis.
7. Select partner economies from “Partner Economies”.
8. Select the years from “Years” by checking each box and click on “Apply”.
9. After clicking on “Apply”, the data will be displayed as seen in the picture below. You also have the option to download the data in either Excel or CSV format.
This data suggests that partner economies recorded low CVD measures against their selected reporting economies from 2015 to 2020.
10. This is how the data appears in Excel
Be sure to consult with the source website on how to correctly cite your data. For this scenario, the citation in APA would look something like this:
