Policy on Emerging Scholar Award

Purpose
The College of Education and Human Development Emerging Scholar Award recognizes one individual with outstanding scholarly accomplishments and the potential for continued excellence.
Eligibility
- Individual must be a full-time, board-appointed faculty member in the College of Education and Human Development 51福利社 Michigan University.
- At time of nomination, faculty member must not be tenured.
- Individuals may be nominated in more than one year, but may only win one time.
Nature of the award
- A maximum of one award per year.
- The winner will receive a one-time faculty development award of $500 for professional development purposes, payable out of the college facilities and administration account.
- The winner will be recognized during the State of the College address.
Nomination procedure
- Individuals may self-nominate or be nominated by a colleague.
- Nomination materials must include a current curriculum vitae and a letter from the nominee addressing the significance of his/her scholarship and the impact of the scholarship on the field. Nominees should keep in mind that the review committee is comprised of faculty from various departments; hence the letter should avoid discipline-specific language and clearly situate the scholarship in the larger context.
- Nomination materials must be submitted as one PDF document that includes the letter followed by the CV. Materials must be received by 5 p.m. on June 15 at tate-center@wmich.edu.
Selection criteria
- Scholarship demonstrates significant impact on the nominee鈥檚 field.
- Evidence of potential for continuing high-quality scholarship.
Review committee
The review committee will be comprised of the Tate center advisory committee. The Frostic Endowed Chair of the Tate center will chair the committee. The winner of the award will also serve on the committee the year after they receive the award. Committee members are not eligible to receive the award.
Final decision
The review committee makes a recommendation to the dean of the college for final approval.
