Article to be published in Central European History by Ph.D. student Jason Rose
Ph.D. student, Jason Rose, has co-authored an essay, "Marriage or Profession?: Marital Patterns among Highly Successful Women of Jewish Descent and Other Women in Nineteenth- and Twentieth-Century German-Speaking Central Europe," that will be published in the Central European History journal, tentatively for the December 2020 issue.
The article analyzes the marriage pattern of 250 German women and 250 "successful" German-speaking Jewish women. It points out that Jewish women maintained a marriage partnership that was much more modern than their contemporaries. The article examines what women had to go through to become educated and professionalized during fin de si猫cle German-speaking Central Europe, as well as the horrors that some of these women faced a few decades later, after their struggles and achievements.
