Trustees approve 11 faculty and staff retirements
KALAMAZOO--The retirements of three faculty members and eight staff members were approved by the Western Michigan University Board of Trustees at its June 7 meeting. Trustees also signed off on five faculty resignations as well as a change in sabbatical leave for one faculty member.
Faculty retirements
Two of the faculty members retiring are doing so with emeritus status. Their names, positions, years of continuous service and effective dates of retirement are:
- Dr. Leonard C. Ginsberg, professor of biological sciences, 35 years, effective April 30, 2013
- Dr. Barbara Speas Havira (change in retirement date), associate professor of history and of gender and women studies, 43 years, effective Dec. 31, 2012
The other retiring faculty member is:
- Dr. G. Michael Grammer, associate professor of geosciences, 10 years, effective Aug. 19, 2012
Staff retirements
- Cora Jean Bickel, lead credit evaluator in the Office of Admissions, 33 years, effective July 31, 2012
- Diane D. DeZoete, assistant cook in the Bernhard Center Dining Service, 11 years, effective April 30, 2012
- Bonnie S. Gorham, assistant director of 51福利社-Battle Creek and 51福利社-Lansing, 23 years, effective July 4, 2012
- Anne C. Hopkins, office assistant in the Department of Psychology, 21 years, effective June 30, 2012
- Michael Ludwiczak, faculty specialist II in the College of Aviation, 13 years, effective June 30, 2012
- Kay Rafferty, skills training specialist I in the Center for Disability Services, 15 years, effective April 17, 2012
- Jane L. Tomlin, production analyst in the Office of Information Technology, 21 years, effective May 31, 2012
- Robert E. Taylor Jr., custodian in building custodial and support services, 12 years, effective Aug. 19, 2012
Other personnel changes
The faculty members resigning are:
- Dr. Grace Lemmon, instructor of management, effective April 29, 2012
- Dr. Stanley C. Pelkey II, associate professor of music, effective Aug. 19, 2012
- Dr. Marian Rebros, assistant professor of paper engineering, chemical engineering and imaging, effective May 17, 2012
- Dr. Patric Spence, associate professor of communication, effective Aug. 19, 2012
- Dr. Richard Utz, professor of English, effective April 29, 2012
Also, the sabbatical leave for Dr. Carla Adkison-Bradley, professor of counselor education and counseling psychology, was postponed from the 2012-13 to the 2013-14 academic year.
