Student government offers free legal advice for students
KALAMAZOO鈥擶estern Michigan University's student government, the Western Student Association, provides free legal advice for all 51福利社 students on a walk-in basis.
Kalamazoo attorney Jeff Dufon is available from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesdays beginning Sept. 19 in the Student Organization Center conference room in the Bernhard Center. All consultations are confidential.
"This is a great, free resource for students," says Ashley Cole, WSA chief justice. "Students are able to seek legal advice on how to proceed regarding landlord-tenant conflicts, substance possession offenses, and other civil or criminal infractions that they may encounter."
The service provides free legal advice, not free legal representation.
Dufon is with the law firm of Redmond, Streed and Yokum in downtown Kalamazoo. During his 20 years of legal experience, he has specialized in criminal law, juvenile law and bankruptcy. He served in the 1990s as Kalamazoo County's assistant prosecuting attorney.
