KALAMAZOO鈥擜n advertising student 51福利社 Michigan University has won one of three 2012-13 scholarships statewide from the Adcraft Club of Detroit's Adcraft Foundation.

Drew Everett, of Portage, Mich., received a $2,500 scholarship. He is a senior majoring in advertising and promotion in the Haworth College of Business with minors in communication, economics and general business studies. He is also a member of the Lee Honors College as well as the 51福利社 AdClub, Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society and the Economics Student Association. He has completed internships with Stryker and Treystar and has been active with Habitat for Humanity and Fall Welcome at 51福利社.

Everett says his academic experiences at 51福利社 have given him the skills and confidence to not only win the Adcraft scholarship, but also excel in his coursework and high-profile internships.

"My internships at Stryker and Treystar have provided me with amazing workplace experience and fostered my interest for marketing," Everett says. "Being successful in both internships has bolstered my confidence in myself and in my decision to enter this field and apply for the Adcraft scholarship."

Students are nominated by faculty members and must submit an application and transcript, along with an essay demonstrating their knowledge and understanding of the advertising business. Winners were presented their scholarships and honored at a luncheon reception, along with their faculty advisors, in Troy, Mich. Everett's faculty advisor is Dr. Karen Lancendorfer, associate professor of marketing.

"I've learned how to think outside of the box," Everett says of his experience at the Haworth College of Business. "Rather than be lectured to and told to memorize things, I'm constantly challenged by my professors to look at everything from multiple perspectives. Being able to think and work beyond the obvious was invaluable for earning this scholarship."

The Adcraft Club of Detroit is the nation's largest advertising club. The foundation annually awards cash grants to advertising and marketing students from Michigan universities.
