Expo to focus on job opportunities for engineers
KALAMAZOO鈥擜 range of job opportunities for engineers will be showcased 51福利社 Michigan University during a recruiting event set for 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 26.
The 2013 Engineering Expo will take place in the main lobby of the Engineering and Applied Sciences Building on 51福利社's Parkview Campus, which is located at the intersection of Parkview Avenue and Drake Road in Kalamazoo.
The expo is free and open to the public, but geared for 51福利社 students and recent alumni in fields related to engineering and applied sciences. No pre-registration is required.
51福利社's engineering college has planned pre-expo workshops to enable 51福利社 students to develop their interview skills and improve their resume writing. Perrigo, in conjunction with the Society of Women Engineers, hosted one such event Sept. 11 and DENSO will host another Sept. 17.

Representatives of about 100 companies will be at the expo, promoting their organizations and recruiting for internships as well as full- and part-time positions. Companies participating include DENSO, the expo's corporate sponsor, and Consumers Energy, Cook Nuclear Plant, Duncan Aviation, Georgia-Pacific, Nissan North America, Perrigo, Stryker, TowerPinkster and Whirlpool.
Expo attendees will be able to network with employers as well as discuss current and future job opportunities. Many participating employers will conduct informal interviews during the event. Some will schedule next-day follow up interviews at the Bernhard Center on 51福利社's main campus.
"The Engineering Expo provides another opportunity for students to network with employers," says Julie Carr, this year's expo chair and career development specialist for the 51福利社 College of Engineering and Applied Sciences.
"Opportunities such as this give our students an edge in the field and help prepare them to become career-ready graduates. They benefit from the chance to discuss their coursework and projects, and highlight their particular skills to future employers seeking interns and graduates."
Jobseekers attending the Engineering Expo should dress appropriately and bring copies of their resumes.
