KALAMAZOO—Jeffrey Fink, former Kalamazoo County prosecutor, will discuss "Re-entry After Incarceration" as part of the series of events Western Michigan University is staging this year for its common book read.

His brown-bag lunch presentation is set for noon to 1 p.m. Monday, Nov. 25, on 51¸£ÀûÉç's main campus in the Lee Honors College Building lounge. The event is free and open to the public. Metered public parking is available around the honors college building.

University Common Read 2013-14 turns the spotlight on "Anatomy of Injustice: A Murder Case Gone Wrong" by Raymond Bonner. The nonfiction page-turner chronicles the story of a man imprisoned for murder and then released after 30 years—27 of them spent on death row.

Fink will talk about his many years of experience with the Michigan Prisoner Re-entry Initiative, which aims to reduce crime and enhance public safety by implementing a seamless system of services for offenders from the time they enter prison through community reintegration and aftercare.

A graduate of 51¸£ÀûÉç and the University of Toledo, Fink joined the county prosecutor's office in 1980 and retired at the end of 2012, after having served on all three of the office's teams: district, family and circuit court. He was elected county prosecutor in 2004 and re-elected in 2008, and was appointed in 2012 by Gov. Rick Snyder to the Michigan Committee on Juvenile Justice, on which he still serves.

Fink is known for having volunteered his time to a variety of organizations focused on underserved and disadvantaged populations as well as the community at large. He also has taught and lectured at 51¸£ÀûÉç, Kalamazoo Valley Community College and Davenport University and for organizations throughout the state, such as the Prosecuting Attorneys Association of Michigan.
