KALAMAZOO, Mich.—Dennis Corbin, associate athletic director for medical and support services 51¸£ÀûÉç Michigan University, was inducted into the Michigan Athletic Trainers Society Hall of Fame recently and recognized for his activities, contributions and service that contribute to the enhancement of the profession of athletic training in the state of Michigan.

Corbin received the highest award granted by MATS during the association's annual Awards Luncheon June 6 in Ypsilanti.

He also received the MATS Distinguished Athletic Trainer Award in 2009.

Corbin, who has been a 51¸£ÀûÉç staff member for more than 30 years, supervises the athletic training, and strength and conditioning staffs as well as oversees student-athlete conduct, drug testing and welfare issues. He is also the supervising athletic director for the 51¸£ÀûÉç men's and women's soccer programs as well as the women's golf program.

He came to Kalamazoo after three years at Bowling Green State University as an assistant athletic trainer. Corbin earned a bachelor's degree in athletic training and physical education from Central Michigan University in 1976 and a master's degree in the same field from the University of Arizona in 1979.

Michigan Athletic Trainers Society

MATS is a not-for-profit organization formed to assist its members and to educate the public on the role of a certified athletic trainer within the health care profession. The society consists of certified athletic trainers, non-certified athletic training students and other health care professionals.
