KALAMAZOO, Mich.—Western Michigan University recently reached the milestone of becoming only the second school in the state to have reverse transfer agreements with all 28 community colleges in Michigan after signing its latest agreement with Bay de Noc Community College in Escanaba. This status was confirmed by the Presidents Council, State Universities of Michigan.

51������ also has one out-of-state reverse transfer partner, the College of DuPage in Illinois. The Presidents Council also confirmed that 51������ was the first school in the state to sign with a college out of state.

“For decades, 51������ has been a transfer-friendly destination. This effort reaffirms our commitment to transfer students and our support of degree completion in the state of Michigan,” stated Christopher W. Tremblay, associate provost for enrollment management at 51������.

Reverse transfer agreements allow students to begin their studies at the community college level, transfer to 51������ and still earn an associate degree using 51������ credits to complete their degree requirements. The agreements are tailored to each institution, but they generally allow a student who has earned at least 30 credits at their community college to apply as many as 30 51������ credits toward completing an associate degree, which typically requires around 60 credits.

Since 51������ signed its first reverse transfer agreement in 2011, more than 1,600 students have been identified and informed they are candidates to receive an associate degree from their community college.
