Members of the Mid-American Conference Council of Presidents, the governing body for the MAC, have selected 51¸£ÀûÉç President John M. Dunn to chair the council for another two-year term.

Rainie Quang, a senior accountancy major and management minor, recently received a $10,000 Public Company Accounting Oversight Board Scholarship. She hopes to one day open her own tax preparation business.

Dr. Susan Freeman's book, "Understanding and Teaching U.S. Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender History," was awarded a prestigious 2014 Lambda Literary Award.

"Seeking Shelter From the Storm: Architecture in 18th-century New France" is the theme of the two-day open house at the site scheduled for 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, June 27-28.

Undergraduates Shelby Flanagan, Andrew Laws, Alainah Montemayor, Justin Clark and Holly Toner will use the scholarships to study abroad during the 2015-16 academic year.

At its June 3 meeting, the 51¸£ÀûÉç Board of Trustees approved the retirements of 20 employees. Trustees also signed off on one faculty resignation and granted one sabbatical leave.

The successful partnership between the Soga Japan Center and Kalamazoo Public Schools earned the center one of this year's eight Champs awards. Michiko Yoshimoto, the center's outreach coordinator, accepted the award.

The festival runs from 4 p.m. to midnight Friday and 11 a.m. to midnight Saturday. Admission is $8 and $4 for students with a valid ID. Proceeds benefit Kalamazoo Loaves and Fishes.

Ceremonies are set for 9 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Significant summer highway construction in the Kalamazoo area means visitors to campus will want to carefully plan their routes.

Dr. Scott Irelan currently serves as associate professor and chairperson of the Department of Theatre and Dance at Youngstown State University. His appointment is effective July 6.

Dr. Elson S. Floyd died Saturday, June 20, at age 59. Floyd was 51¸£ÀûÉç's president from 1998 to 2003. His tenure was marked by a series of major developments that have had a lasting impact on the campus and community.

The University has activated a new online application system, which offers a seamless experience with all of 51¸£ÀûÉç's application forms, including specialty forms, completely online.

The weekly outdoor concerts are offered Sunday afternoons throughout June, July and August and will feature performances of jazz, big band, bluegrass, American roots and blues music.

The June 23 open house, sponsored by the Aphasia Communication Enhancement Program in 51¸£ÀûÉç's Charles Van Riper Language, Speech and Hearing Clinic, will be held from noon to 1 p.m.

Students Sara Karsten and Katherine Vena will compete June 22-25 in the 2015 Air Race Classic that will see aviators travel a course from Fredericksburg, Virginia, to Fairhope, Alabama.

51¸£ÀûÉç's Theatre for Community Health received the 2014-15 Outstanding Program Award from the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators, or NASPA.

51¸£ÀûÉç is seeking homestay opportunities for visiting international students arriving from Japan in August. Host families will be required to provide a private bedroom and two meals daily.

A 51¸£ÀûÉç Faculty and Staff Appreciation Night will be held at the June 19 Kalamazoo Growlers baseball game. The first pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. at Homer Stryker Field.

A major upgrade to BroncoJobs has resulted in several new services and system efficiencies for both 51¸£ÀûÉç students and alumni seeking jobs and on- and off-campus employers seeking to fill open positions.

Former 51¸£ÀûÉç coach and professor, George William Hobbs died Thursday, March 12, in Merritt Island, Florida. He was 75. A memorial service is set for Friday, June 12.

A few slots are still open for incoming first-year students and transfer students to participate in summer orientation sessions, which are well underway and expected to bring some 8,000 people to campus.

The annual Wednesday afternoon series of outdoor concerts begins June 17 with the Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra Group and concludes Aug. 19 with Fly Paper.

Trustees approved the tenure of 23 faculty members and promotions of 33 faculty members at its June 3 meeting, effective with the beginning of the 2015-16 academic year.

The newly approved and balanced budget includes a 2.64 percent increase of $10 million in both total revenue and expenses, as compared with last year's budget.
