Philip E. Kaldon obituary

Philip E. Kaldon

Dr. Philip E. Kaldon, who had been with the Western Michigan University Department of Physics in a number of teaching appointments since 1992, died April 20. He was 57. 

Kaldon also was an instructor at Kalamazoo Valley Community College, and a visiting assistant professor at both Grand Valley State University and Hope College.

Affectionately known as "Dr. Phil" by his students, Kaldon had a reputation for teaching with enthusiasm and humor. He was dedicated to science literacy and the success of his students.

Kaldon was a moderator for the College Bowl and Science Olympiad competitions. He was a past president of the Michigan Section of the American Association of Physics Teachers, as well as a member of various national physics organizations.

In addition to his dedication to teaching physics, Kaldon enjoyed a second career as a science fiction author.

Kaldon earned a bachelor鈥檚 degree from Northwestern University and master鈥檚 and doctoral degrees from Michigan Technological University.
