KALAMAZOO, Mich.—The Western Michigan University Symphony Orchestra will present the first concert of the 2016–17 season at 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 9, at Miller Auditorium. Admission is free. The concert will feature talented cello soloist Richard Narroway, the 2010 Gold Medalist of the Stulberg International String Competition.

Narroway will perform the “Variations on a Rococo Theme” for cello by Tchaikovsky. The concert opens with the Karelia Overture by Sibelius. It was one of his earliest and most successful compositions that celebrates Finnish folk music. The program will also feature the entire “Nutcracker Ballet” by Piotr Illyich Tchaikovsky.

The 51������ orchestra will perform the Nutcracker with the Moscow Ballet company at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 6, in Miller Auditorium.
