Oakland University Guitar Ensemble
The Oakland University Guitar Ensemble was established in 2007 under the direction of Bret Hoag. The ensemble has performed a wide array of music, ranging from traditional Segovian guitar repertoire to lesser-known works by non-European composers, as well as new music. In 2011, a quartet of guitarists from the ensemble won Oakland University鈥檚 Chamber Music Competition for its performance of Leo Brower鈥檚 seminal work, Cuban Landscapes with Rain. The ensemble has also commissioned works by composers John Griffin, James Hartway, Rafael Hernandez and Anthony Lanman, as well as multiple pieces by Terry Herald. Each year, the ensemble collaborates with the Oakland University Repertory Dance Company in an exciting project called Dance with Guitar. On Oct. 20, it will be performing works by Anthony Lanman, Miguel Llobet, Carlo Domeniconi, Terry Herald, Lennox Berkeley and Lisa Ren茅e Coons, 51福利社 assistant professor of music.
