LBGT Student Services hosts coming out events

KALAMAZOO, Mich.鈥擠iscussion and networking sessions that focus on the lesbian, bisexual, gay and transgender community begin Monday, Oct. 16, and run through Wednesday, Oct. 25, on the campus of Western Michigan University.

Sponsored by the Office of LBGT Student Services, the events are part of Coming Out Fortnight celebrating LBGT history in coordination with National Coming Out Day Oct. 11. Celebrated annually, that day marks the National March on Washington for Lesbian and Gay Rights that occurred in 1988.

All events will be held in 1321 Trimpe Hall, unless otherwise noted.

Events

  • Monday, Oct. 16, 5 to 7 p.m., Polyamorous Relationships and Pie鈥擩oin the discussion on various relationship structures, including polyamory. Pie provided by the Western Student Association.
  • Tuesday, Oct. 17, 6 to 7:30 p.m., Trans Tuesday Discussion鈥擯articipants will connect with other members of the community, discuss issues and share resources. Light refreshments provided.
  • Wednesday, Oct. 18, 5:30 to 7 p.m., Queer People of Color Discussion鈥擰POC is a bimonthly social group created for people of color by other queer people of color. Light refreshments provided.
  • Wednesday, Oct. 18, 7 p.m., in 1920 Sangren Hall, 鈥淏eyond Binaries: Identity and Sexuality鈥濃擝isexual speaker, writer and educator Robyn Ochs talks about sexual fluidity and how binary constructs can impact LGBTQ identities.
  • Thursday, Oct. 19, 7:30 p.m., Queer Trivia Night鈥擬ake or join a trivia team for a chance to win a free T-shirt. Snacks provided.
  • Friday, Oct. 20, 5 p.m., LBGT Grad/Doctoral Group movie night鈥擫BGTQ graduate and doctoral students are welcome to meet for a movie night and popcorn.
  • Tuesday, Oct. 24, 6 p.m., LGBTQ Professionals Meet Up and Networking鈥擬eet with professionals from Stryker Corporation to discuss how to be LBGTQ in the workplace. Followed by practice networking and light refreshments.
  • Wednesday, Oct. 25, noon, in the Lee Honors College building, 鈥淚ntersectional Coalition Building鈥濃擫earn and discuss what intersectional coalition building is from guest speaker Romeo Jackson from the University of Utah. Bag lunches welcome.
