University Percussion Ensemble offers free fall concert

KALAMAZOO, Mich.鈥擳he University Percussion Ensemble fall concert will consist of early landmark compositions for percussion at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 5, in Western Michigan University's Dalton Center Recital Hall. The event is free and open to the public.

The performance will include "Ionisation" by Edgard Varese, conducted by percussion graduate assistant Bradford Crossland, and "Second Construction" by John Cage, combined with new works including "Gravity" by Marc Mellits and "Disarchitecture" by Dave Hall.

In addition, the ensemble will honor the memory of David Maslanka, a well-respected composer of works for percussion, by performing his "Crown of Thorns."
