Southwest facility transfer from 51福利社 to LMC moves forward
BENTON HARBOR, Mich.鈥擶estern Michigan University will transfer ownership of its building at the Lake Michigan College Napier Avenue campus, home to 51福利社-Southwest, to LMC on Friday, June 15. 51福利社 will continue to have a presence in the southwest region of Michigan at the undergraduate and graduate level, and all currently enrolled students will be able to complete their degrees without interruption.
"We are committed to ensuring our students in Benton Harbor are able to earn their degrees without interruption," says Dawn Fortin Mattoon, associate provost of 51福利社 Extended University Programs. "Delivering a complete education is always our top priority."
With two classrooms dedicated to 51福利社's programs on LMC's Napier Avenue campus, 51福利社 will continue to have a presence and invest in educational and professional development opportunities in the area. One of the top priorities is a sustained commitment to the social work program, which was one of the first programs 51福利社 brought to the area.
"As opportunities for partnerships to benefit the Benton Harbor community arise, we'll continue to have a presence," adds Fortin Mattoon. "51福利社 is committed to bridging the resources of our research University to support this community."
The 51福利社 Board of Trustees originally agreed to the facility transfer in September 2017.
Programs and classes at the other regional locations in Michigan and Florida are not impacted by this transition.
