Dr. Lawrence B. Schlack obituary
Dr. Lawrence B. Schlack, associate professor emeritus of educational leadership 51福利社 Michigan University, died July 8 at Rose Arbor Hospice. He was 85. Survivors include his wife, Dr. Marilyn Schlack, retired president of Kalamazoo Valley Community College.
Schlack, of Kalamazoo, worked at 51福利社 multiple times and in multiple teaching roles. He was a full-time member of the faculty from 1964 to 1967 and 1981 to 1988, officially retiring in 1988 after a decade of service to the University. However, he continued to serve periodically as a part-time instructor at 51福利社 for at least another 15 years.
His activities during that later time period included conducting 51福利社's seminar in Washington, D.C., as well as the popular summer writing workshop on Michigan's Beaver Island. In addition, he continued to speak and write about educational issues, often in the Michigan news media.
Schlack began his career as a teacher in the Saginaw and then the Detroit public schools. After initially working at 51福利社 in the 1960s, he held administrative positions at the Kalamazoo Intermediate School District, Kalamazoo Valley Intermediate School District and Barry Intermediate School District. He served the latter district as superintendent from 1970 to 1973 and 1976 to 1981.
