Description of certificate:

Airport Management Certificate – College of Aviation – Western Michigan University

The undergraduate certificate in Airport Management provides students with aviation specific knowledge and skills that prepare them for successful careers in the airport industry.  Students will learn concepts related to airport operations, emergency management, security, leadership, airport planning and design, customer satisfaction, leadership, and problem-solving. This certificate allows students an opportunity to specialize in knowledge related to the airport industry and provides added expertise and credentials through a formal certificate. Some courses may have an online component or may be delivered entirely online.

This certificate prepares students for airport management careers while also giving them necessary knowledge which can be applied to other industry certifications, such as the American Association of Airport Executives (AAAE) Airport Certified Employee (ACE), Airport Safety & Operations Specialist (ASOS), and Certified Member (CM).

Coursework includes a minimum of 15 credit hours in the College of Aviation.

Required Courses (9 credit hours):

  • Credits: 3 hours

  • Credits: 3 hours

Select two of the following (6 credits):

  • AVS 3360 – Aircraft Accident Investigation Credits: 3 hours
  • Credits: 3 hours
  • Credits: 3 hours

*AVS 4130 is currently offered Fall semester, AVS 4140 is currently offered Spring Semester*

Requirements:

  1. Resume or Curriculum Vitae (CV) is required for nondegree seeking students.
  2. An official transcript from the institution you currently attend or from which you received your bachelor’s degree is required. Current 51¸£ÀûÉç students may submit an unofficial transcript.
  3. A 2.5 GPA in undergraduate work for students is required.  This may be dropped to a 2.0 GPA if the nondegree seeking applicant demonstrates relevant industry experience as determined by the applicant’s resume/CV.  Students currently enrolled as degree-seeking in a program at 51¸£ÀûÉç with good standing will have the GPA requirement waived. There is no minimum credit requirement to apply for this certificate.
  4. Current 51¸£ÀûÉç students must take AVS 1200 as a prerequisite to apply to the certificate.   This may be waived for nondegree seeking students based on official transcripts and/or work experience.
