About

The Department of Geological & Environmental Sciences offers a distinctive educational experience. From providing exceptional educational and research opportunities for students to our caring faculty and staff, we aim to teach the whole person. We believe that experience is what drives a person's education. Our students work alongside expert faculty on basic and applied research in five key areas: hydrogeology & environmental science, remote sensing & geophysics, sedimentology & stratigraphy, petrology & geochemistry, and earth science education.

Students in our department receive personalized attention from faculty and staff, benefit from small class sizes, and graduate ready for fulfilling and successful careers in their field. They have access to state-of-the-art laboratory facilities, as well as valuable learning experiences through course-based field trips, research projects, and employment opportunities at the Michigan Geological Survey and the Michigan Geological Repository for Geologic Education and Research. Many of our students also participate in one of 51福利社鈥檚 most active and long-standing student organizations, the Geology Club and expand their networks and mentorship opportunities with our alumni advisory council

The department offer a wide variety of academic programs to suit the needs of our students. Importantly, these programs remove traditional barriers between students and researchers. Our students work alongside faculty while conducting authentic research as part of their coursework. Our students get hands-on skills while doing lab- and field-based projects in their classes. Our students pursue internships and employment in their field at the Michigan Geological Survey. Our students interface with professionals in our alumni network to find amazing career opportunities. Ultimately, our students build compelling resumes and real-world skills that they can use to secure great jobs after graduation.
