General summary
Manages the Lawson Ice Arena and Gabel Natatorium operations, programs and services.
Major duties
- Develops, promotes and oversees daily activities and program operations of the Lawson Ice Arena and Gabel Natatorium. Develops and implements policies and procedures to ensure the safety and security of building and program participants.
- Develops marketing strategies and promotional opportunities to publicize and promote Lawson Arena programs and services and generate additional revenues.
- Schedules activities and oversees preparation for event and program services and accommodations. Assesses and makes recommendations on building usage, program allocation and programming to ensure financial stability.
- Supervises regular and temporary staff and schedules appropriate staffing for all games and events. Ensures staff are trained in safety, security and risk management procedures. Resolves personnel problems and operational issues.
- Maintains financial records and monitors financial activity. Oversees the management of the Lawson Arena and Gabel Natatorium budget to ensure fiscal integrity of the department.
- Negotiates contracts for use of ice and pool facilities. Develops strategies to increase revenues and satisfy customer needs.
- Oversees athletic event management. Ensures the efficient operation of equipment and maintenance of building facilities to minimize the risk of liability to the University.
- Builds and maintains internal clients and external community relations to ensure successful fulfillment of the department mission.
Minimum qualifications
Minimum qualifications based upon job documentation and industry best practices. Any current employees not meeting these qualifications will be grandfathered until they move to a different job.
Required education
- Bachelor's degree in related field from an accredited institution.
Required experience
- Three years' relevant experience.
- Supervisory experience.
- Knowledge of city, county, and state health codes.
Required other
- First Aid/CPR/AED certification.
- Ability to work irregular shifts and extended hours, including weekends and holidays.
Physical requirements
Light work with some physical demands such as continuously lifting or moving materials less than 25 pounds, but rarely moving more than 25 to 50 pounds.
Working conditions
Work is performed in an environment with exposure to somewhat disagreeable or hazardous conditions.
