General summary
Manages the maintenance and repair of fleet vehicles and equipment.
Major duties
- Reviews work orders and assigns maintenance or repairs to appropriate staff.
- Maintains parts inventory.
- Inspects vehicles for body damage and coordinates repairs with contractor.
- Maintains records of all repair costs. Consults with departments on charge-backs.
- Manages the purchase or disposal of vehicles.
- Maintains accurate records of vehicles, maintenance and repairs, insurance claims, fuel cards and other department services.
- Ensures vehicle repair and maintenance manuals are complete and up to date.
- Manages the department budget including amortization schedules.
- Hires, trains, evaluates and supervises staff and student employees in compliance with a collective bargaining agreement and University policies and procedures.
Minimum qualifications
Minimum qualifications based upon job documentation and industry best practices. Any current employees not meeting these qualifications will be grandfathered until they move to a different job.
Required education
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field from an accredited institution.
Required experience
- Three years’ relevant experience.
- Supervisory or lead experience.
- Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
- Budget management experience.
Required other
- Valid commercial driver’s license.

- Fleet management experience.
Physical requirements
Light work with some physical demands such as continuously lifting or moving materials less than 25 pounds, but rarely moving more than 25 to 50 pounds.
Working conditions
Work is performed with exposure to any number of elements which may occasionally require some precautions such as safety glasses, protective clothing, ear protection, etc.
