General summary
Oversees the safe and compliant procurement, use, storage, transfer, and disposal of radioactive materials, radiation-producing machines, and microbial agents. Ensures compliance with applicable University, state, and federal rules and regulations.
Major duties
- Performs duties of export controls program management. Performs restricted party screening. Develops, maintains, and implements campus-wide export control training.
- Advises, consults, and conducts investigations of export control activities.
- Performs radiation exposure control surveys and monitoring, including maintenance of radiation monitoring equipment.
- Develops and conducts initial and annual training on the use of radioactive material and radiation-producing machines. Plans, trains, and conducts operations during an emergency involving radioactive materials or microbial agents.
- Ensures compliance with University, state, and federal regulations by conducting internal and external audits and surveillance. Serves as liaison between the University and regulatory agencies on matters about radiation safety, microbiological safety, and microbiological security.
- Responds to requests and inquiries from the University community.
Minimum qualifications
Minimum qualifications based upon job documentation and industry best practices. Any current employees not meeting these qualifications will be grandfathered until they move to a different job.
Required education
- Bachelor's degree in related field from an accredited institution.
Required experience
- Three years' relevant experience.
Required other
- Theoretical and practical application of radiation safety fundamentals in accordance with American National Standards Institute standards and 10CFR20 and 30 series requirements.
Physical requirements
Light work with some physical demands such as continuously lifting or moving materials less than 25 pounds, but rarely moving more than 25 to 50 pounds.
Working conditions
Work is performed in an environment with exposure to somewhat disagreeable or hazardous conditions.
