General summary
Supports the clinical services in an assigned unit by performing patient reception, registration and admission, appointment scheduling, medical record processing and cashiering.
Major duties
- Registers and makes appointments for patients.
- Answers questions regarding accessing care and using insurance.
- Collects demographic information from patient and scans documents into electronic system.
- Performs data entry of insurance information and verifies coverage.
- Maintains updated knowledge of changing health care business processes.
- Performs cashiering functions, including processing patient payments, running daily revenue reports, and processing daily deposits.
- Assists with insurance billing and claims management. Assists with collections.
- Obtains verification of insurance and eligibility for services from University and external data bases.
Minimum qualifications
Minimum qualifications based upon job documentation and industry best practices. Any current employees not meeting these qualifications will be grandfathered until they move to a different job.
Required education
- High school diploma or equivalent.
Required experience
- One year's relevant experience.
- Medical office or clinical clerical support experience.
- Electronic health record experience.

- Some college coursework from an accredited institution.
Desired experience
- Three years' relevant experience.
- Knowledge of point and click software.
Desired other
- Successful completion of medical secretarial or medical terminology training.
Physical requirements
Office or other indoor work with minimal physical demands such as occasionally lifting or moving materials less than 25 pounds.
Working conditions
Work is generally performed in a well-lit, temperature-controlled indoor environment with occasional exposure to the outdoors or any number of elements.
