General summary

Manages facility asset data collection and leads the annual capital renewal recommendations for major facility components and systems. Provides technical planning, manages building operating equipment, and manages the University building automation system.

Major duties

  • Manages space allocation procedures, reviews space assignments, provides recommendations to space advisory committee.
  • Supports projects resulting from the Deferred Maintenance Funding Cycle or other processes, resource planning, managing projects as assigned, and establishing a culture of continuous improvement such that projects are completed on time and within budget.
  • Supports projects involving mechanical control systems and designs, including field investigation, reviewing standards and design documents, and providing recommendations to optimize building systems functionality.
  • Establishes and maintains collaborative partnerships within Facilities and encourages engagement across campus to promote management of space, implementation of the Campus Master Plan, and alignment with strategic facilities use programs.
  • Oversees the data analytics cycle for space use, operations data, and facility condition to promote efficiency, strategic resource allocation, innovative strategies using life cycle cost principles and cost of ownership methodology.
  • Provides leadership with capital renewal recommendations for physical assets and oversees the implementation of the annual Deferred Maintenance funding cycle.
  • Develops and communicates to the State of Michigan all required reports for capital projects.
  • Reviews all State required reports, reconciles any differences, and ensures budget compliance for State funded capital projects.

Minimum qualifications

Required education

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field from an accredited institution.

Required experience

  • Five years’ relevant experience.
  • Experience with facility asset management.
  • Knowledge of heating ventilation and air conditioning mechanical and control systems.
  • Experience reading technical drawings and construction or engineering specifications.
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills. Computer and networking knowledge.

Physical requirements

Office or other indoor work with minimal physical demands such as occasionally lifting or moving materials less than 25 pounds.

Working conditions

Work is performed with exposure to any number of elements which may occasionally require some precautions such as safety glasses, protective clothing, ear protection, etc.
