Dr. Zhang has authored or co-authored six textbooks on Graph Theory, Discrete Mathematics, and Mathematical Proofs and six special topics books in Graph Theory. She has authored or co-authored over 340 research articles in algebraic combinatorics and graph theory. The book titled "The Fascinating World of Graph Theory," co-authored with  and  and published by Princeton University Press and translated into Chinese and Japanese, was named a 2015 Choice Magazine Outstanding Academic Title in Mathematics, one of only nine books selected. Her co-edited 2013 book "Handbook of Graph Theory" is the most comprehensive single-sourced guide to graph theory and has originated major areas of research.

Dr. Zhang has directed the dissertations of  51福利社 Michigan University. In addition, she has served as a second reader, external examiner, or member of 33 doctoral dissertation committees.  She has also supervised numerous research projects with graduate and undergraduate students.
