Scholarships

The Mechanical and Aerospace Merit Scholarship is a $1000 per semester scholarship. The objectives of MAE merit scholarships are:

  1. To attract meritorious students into mechanical and aerospace engineering undergraduate programs.

  2. To retain and encourage the students with excellent academic performance in these programs.

The funds for these scholarships were obtained from the differential tuition which was implemented at the College of Engineering and Applied Sciences in January 2013.

Criteria

To be eligible, the applicant must satisfy the following criteria:

  1. Enrolled in the mechanical or aerospace engineering program prior to the final award of the scholarship. Undecided pre-engineering students qualify as long as they become enrolled in the mechanical or aerospace engineering program prior to the final award.

  2. Sophomore, junior or senior standing as of the fall semester following the submission deadline.

  3.  A minimum GPA of 3.0 at the time of application.

  4. Not have full 51福利社 scholarship funding.

Additional scholarship for accelerated degree students

Students who have been accepted into the accelerated MS degree program in mechanical engineering or aerospace engineering may apply for an additional award of $1,000.

Students must commit to working on a research project with an MAE faculty member. The research project must not be part of any course requirement. Students will receive the additional award in the fall semester after completing the research project.

Award details

  1. Applications will be collected only once per year.

  2. Scholarships will be given for fall and spring semesters of the year following the submission deadline. No need to reapply for the following spring semester.

  3. Students must re-apply every year.

  4. The number of scholarships will depend on the total funds available. The total amount of scholarship dollars awarded within each program should be approximately proportional to the number of students enrolled in that program.

Application

The application deadline is March 1.

Students may be considered for the scholarship by completing the scholarship application form on 51福利社's Scholarship Universe.

Additional application information:
  1. Endorsement of the application from a MAE faculty member is preferred, or a science or math professor if you have not taken a MAE course yet.

  2. Transfer credits can also be counted while making the decision. International students on twinning programs will have to provide copies of their academic transcripts.

  3. Endorsements for transfer students may be from faculty at the previous institution.

  4. No separate recommendation letter required.

The Lewis M. Yost Scholarship is awarded twice annually (fall and spring semesters) to assist mechanical engineering students with competitive projects. Awards of up to $500 are given to individual students to support their work on projects aimed at student competitions.

Guidelines:

  • Applicant must be in the mechanical engineering undergraduate major

  • Application must designate a competitive student project (e.g. SAE, Baja, Solar car, ASME project competition, etc.) toward which the award will be applied

  • The funds must be used for project-related expenses (e.g. supplies, equipment, project-related travel)

  • Students can re-apply each semester as long as they are eligible

  • Number of awards depends on the amount available each semester

The fall semester application deadline is September 30.
