Most University offices will be closed Monday, Jan. 20, in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Classes resume and all offices resume normal hours of operation Tuesday, Jan. 21.

51¸£ÀûÉç's Center for Fostering Success has been recognized by a leading social policy organization as one of the top programs nationwide making a critical difference in the lives of foster care youth.

Nominations sought for 'Who's Who' program

Honors college talks to focus on 'Living With Uncertainty'

The Lee Honors College will present 12 talks this semester that relate to the uncertainty in life. They will be held from noon to 1 p.m. Wednesdays from Jan. 15 through April 9 in the honors college building.

Registration starting for lifelong learning academy classes, trips

51¸£ÀûÉç's Academy of Lifelong Learning has announced its spring list of low-cost courses and trips. Nonmembers of the academy may register for most offerings beginning Thursday, Jan. 23.

The first 2014 meeting of 51¸£ÀûÉç's Board of Trustees is slated to take place at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 22, in 157-159 Bernhard Center. Election of board officers will take place at the meeting.

"Past, Present, and Future: Living the Dream" is the theme of this year's celebration planned to honor Martin Luther King Jr., which includes many events at 51¸£ÀûÉç and across the Kalamazoo community beginning Jan. 15.

Recent alumna Shelley Aurand is one of five ROTC cadets in the nation selected for a special program allowing nursing graduates to delay active duty to pursue a graduate degree full time.

Student APICS chapter earns platinum status

The student chapter of APICS has earned a platinum status for the 15th year. The group was recognized during a November meeting at 51¸£ÀûÉç's Fetzer Center that included a keynote presentation by Dr. Sime Curkovic.

Dr. Anthony Ellis, associate professor of English and an expert on Renaissance literature died Jan. 7 in Worcester, Mass. He was 46. A campus memorial service is being planned for later this semester.

51¸£ÀûÉç nets $140,000-plus in energy savings during holiday closure

After 51¸£ÀûÉç's eight-day winter recess came to an end Thursday, Jan. 2, officials estimated the final tally of energy savings during the period to be more than $140,000.

Lonnie E. Duncan obituary

Dr. Lonnie E. Duncan, 51¸£ÀûÉç associate professor of counselor education and counseling psychology, died suddenly Dec. 31. He was 46. A visitation will be held Sunday, Jan. 5, with a memorial service set for Monday, Jan. 6.

Final East Campus configuration will preserve core of East Hall only

51¸£ÀûÉç officials have made a final decision to focus renovation only on the original core of East Hall, setting the design parameters for the new alumni center. Construction expected to be complete by summer 2015.

Local chocolatier to speak as part of Entrepreneurship Forum

Dale Anderson, owner of Confections with Convictions, a Kalamazoo-based artisanal chocolate store dedicated to hiring young workers with criminal records, will speak at 8 a.m. Friday, Jan. 10, in 2150 Schneider Hall.
