Michigan GEAR UP Program

Michigan has built a strong infrastructure and capacity to provide GEAR UP services through a statewide coalition of its 15 public universities. The Michigan GEAR UP Program provides student participants in the state with support services to increase opportunities to succeed in higher education at post-secondary institutions. It's mission is to provide an opportunity for students to discover, first-hand, the potential of a college education and to expose students to the information, knowledge, and skills they need to prepare themselves adequately for college entry and success. 

Michigan鈥檚 15 public universities work statewide with economically and academically disadvantaged students in 51 of Michigan鈥檚 school districts and 90 school buildings. Each location has a student population of at least 50 percent qualifying for free or reduced lunch.
 

Michigan GEAR UP is a state partnership grant funded by the the U.S. Department of Education and the State of Michigan's Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity (LEO) King/Chavez/Parks College Day Program.

The program's partners include Michigan Department of Education, Michigan鈥檚 15 public universities, EDUGUIDE,  Michigan College Access Network, Michigan Department of Treasury Office of Scholarships & Grants, Michigan Foundation for Educational Leadership, University of Michigan School of Education Center for Education Design Evaluation and Research, and Detroit Area Pre-College Engineering Program (DAPCEP).
