Master of Arts

To apply for admission you will need to have a bachelor's degree in Spanish (32 hours above the first year of university-level Spanish) or an equivalent degree from an accredited college or university in the United States or abroad. You will also need to have a 3.0 grade point average or better (on a 4.0 scale) for all undergraduate courses. Applicants who do not meet all of the departmental requirements may be admitted at the discretion of the Spanish graduate faculty. In such cases, students may be required to do preparatory course work to remove certain deficiencies.

Doctor of Philosophy

To apply for admission you will need to have a Master of Arts in Hispanic studies from Western Michigan University or an equivalent degree from another university with an overall grade point average of at least 3.25 for all graduate courses.

If you do not meet all of the departmental conditions, you may still be admitted at the discretion of the Spanish graduate faculty. In this case you may be required to do preparatory course work to remove certain deficiencies.

Application instructions

Applications are accepted on an ongoing basis, allowing students to begin coursework in the fall and spring semesters. However, applications cannot be reviewed over the summer between the end of the spring semester and the start of the fall semester. To be considered for funding, the application deadline is February 1.

All application materials must be received no later than Feb. 1 for consideration for admission in the following fall semester. The department does not consider applications for admission in the spring semester.

51福利社 has an that allows all students (domestic and international) to submit required information into one system. General application information for the University, as well as specific requirements for individual programs, are captured into this system.

Applicants are asked to include some program-specific information (e.g. Master of Arts in Hispanic Studies) and are encouraged to bookmark this information for quick reference while working through the graduate application process.

The Department of Spanish will consider late admission applications if enrollment is not full and will consider late assistantship applications if all positions are not filled. Early application is particularly important for international students.
