Student Success Toolkit
A trained academic coach will meet with you one-on-one to help examine perceived barriers to success, develop a personalized plan of action, learn and implement new strategies and skills, and take full advantage of campus resources. Meeting with an academic coach is one of the best ways to personalize your education and get on track academically. You can meet with an academic coach once or on a weekly basis to help increase your confidence and achieve your goals.
Student Success Services
Academic support programs to help students enhance their academic skills and connect them to resources.
The Bronco Study Zone is a space for all Western Michigan University students that offers a comfortable learning environment in which students can receive academic support designed to enhance learning and collaboration toward the goal of academic success. Drop-in tutoring is available for various highly challenging courses.
Direct support to students through in-class assistance and weekly review sessions to explore course objectives and develop effective study techniques.
Receive success coaching, including twice-weekly sessions, assistance with goal planning, and academic support with specific courses.
Supplemental instruction for various courses and college success seminars covering many topics.
Developmental Math Tutors
Drop-in tutoring specifically for developmental math courses (1090, 1100, and 1110).
Economics Tutoring
Tutoring offered by the Economics Student Association and Student Success Services.
Finance Tutoring
Drop-in tutoring for various finance courses.
Global and International Studies Tutoring
One-on-one advising and classroom assistance in coursework.
Language, Clubs, and Tables
Language tables, tutoring, clubs, and activities offered by the Department of World Languages and Literature.
Physics Help
Drop-in tutoring for various physics courses.
Spanish Tutoring and Conversation
Opportunities for students enrolled in Spanish language studies to strengthen their mastery of the Spanish grammar and syntax beyond the classroom.
Statistics Help
Drop-in tutoring for various statistics courses.
The College of Health and Human Services acquired an Anatomage Table to further support and enhance anatomy education as it is currently offered in our cadaver lab.
STEP Student Success Center
Drop-in tutoring for Math, Physics, Chemistry, Computer science at various residence halls and at the Parkview campus.
Student Success Resources for Gender and Women's Studies
Drop-in tutoring for all students taking gender and women's studies courses.
Writing Center
Writing consultation by appointment or on a drop-in basis. The Writing Center wants to help our Broncos become better writers.
Dwight B. Waldo Library
The University Libraries' main library offers various amenities including a new book area, lounge, group study areas, and quiet study areas.
Offers employment services, career fairs, career advising, campus employment, resume writing, cover letter assistance, and job search strategies.
Assists undecided students who wish to explore a major or who are in the process of declaring a major.
Zhang Career Center
Facilitates career exploration and readiness as well as professional development for business students through innovative programming and advising.
Career and Student Employment Services comprehensive guide to developing as a professional.
Ensures access for students with documented disabilities and serves as an advocate for students in determining appropriate considerations. Offers a variety of services such as priority registration, referral and advocacy activities with university departments, campus accessibility, adaptive computer equipment, and acting as a liaison for special classroom concerns.
Office of Diversity and Inclusion
Provides guidance to ensure equitable access for all by working collaboratively with the University community to break institutional barriers and affirm the dignity, value, and uniqueness of each member of the community.
Addresses issues of equity, equality and compliance, regarding civil rights laws and policies, for members of the University community.
International Admissions and Services
Assists international students and scholars in their academic, research, cultural, and recreational experiences while working and living within Western Michigan University's campus community and the southwest Michigan community-at-large.
LBGT Student Services
Promotes a campus climate that affirms and supports the academic and personal development of students who identify as lesbian, bisexual, gay, queer, questioning, same-gender-loving, transgender, transsexual, intersex, cross-dressers, their partners, allies, and others who face discrimination due to their sexual orientation or gender identity. Offers education about gender identity and sexual orientation to the 51¸£ÀûÉç community and collaborates with registered student organizations and members of 51¸£ÀûÉç and local community agencies to provide students with access to healthy resources, activities, and support services.
Military and Veteran Affairs
Provides veterans, service members, and family members of veterans with guidance and mentorship in a variety of areas, including academic support, benefit support, and answers to questions about 51¸£ÀûÉç, Veterans Affairs, and the campus community.
Multicultural Affairs for Students
Serves as an information resource on the role and value of diversity in education for Western Michigan University and the greater Kalamazoo communities, sponsors events and programs that promote cultural awareness, and provides support for student organizations.
Serves as a neutral party to help students, faculty, and staff resolve academic and non-academic concerns.
Houses the variety of campus community’s events, volunteering, social opportunities.
Explore a multitude of official student-led campus organizations.
A student-run organization responsible for finding and bringing quality entertainment to the students 51¸£ÀûÉç Michigan University. CAB brings everything from musicians to movies and much more! Meetings are every Monday 7:30 PM in the Student Opportunity Center located in the student center, near the main entrance (the have a cube/office there too if you want to pop in to learn more)!
International Student Activities
Facilitates ongoing international activities on campus, such as an International Festival and a week-long celebration of International Education Week. Plans numerous service-learning, cultural, and recreational activities to help international students engage with the campus and local community.
Residence Life
Offers a variety of on-campus housing options and fosters a residential experience that engages individuals as students, community members, and learners through academic support, civic responsibility, and personal development.
Student Recreation Center
Offers open recreation, personal training, sport leagues, and group exercise, utilizing equipment and facilities to promote health and well-being, with programs that focus on stress reduction, weight loss, increased flexibility and strength, friendly competition, and social interaction.

The federally funded College Assistance for Parenting and Education project (CAPE) allows Western Michigan University to provide a support system for both parents and children. CAPE offers financial, academic and social support programs for parents to help them graduate from college.
Essential Needs works to support 51¸£ÀûÉç students with unmet basic needs.
Scholarships and grants are types of financial aid that do not need to be repaid. They are a great way to pay for your education and may reduce the need for student loans.
Western Michigan University's Sanford Center for Financial Planning and Wellness addresses financial literacy and planning through a variety of programs and services.
Bronco Express is a convenient location for Broncos to receive help understanding financial-related everyday University concerns/questions without a formal appointment needed! Bronco Express assists students with transactions and questions related to financial aid, making payments, student accounts, and general registration information.
Michigan 2-1-1 is a free service that connects Michigan residents with help and answers from thousands of health and human services agencies and resources right in their communities—quickly, easily, and confidentially. What’s more, they use statistical data (not personally identifiable information) from calls and web visits to help shed a light on the nature of social needs in Michigan for government officials and decision-makers across the state.

A licensed and accredited outpatient substance use and behavioral health disorder treatment provider in Michigan.
Counseling Services (Sindecuse Health Center)
Offers short-term individual, couples, and group counseling for a diverse student population to help students learn coping skills and develop new ways of thinking.
Office of Health Promotion and Education
Offers a wide range of programs that cover health and wellness topics, such as sexual health peer education, alcohol risk reduction, and CPR training.
Sindecuse Health Center
Provides evaluation and treatment for a variety of illnesses and injuries, preventive health check-ups, periodic health monitoring, as well as health education opportunities that enhance individual and community health.
Sports Medicine Clinic
Provides comprehensive evaluation and treatment of musculoskeletal injuries, repetitive trauma, pain and dysfunction.
Includes four divisions: police, parking services, emergency management, and security administration.
Provides escorts to students walking alone to on-campus destinations after dark.
Uwill
Offers free access to teletherapy that is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week throughout the year to all enrolled 51¸£ÀûÉç students.
Offers interactive Self-Help Therapy.
The Mind Spa is a space designed to help 51¸£ÀûÉç students develop and practice relaxation skills that will enhance their academic productivity and their sense of well-being.
