Personal Counseling
Short-term and focused personal counseling
A counselor works with you to develop a treatment plan that will best meet your needs based on the nature of the concerns presented. Because each student has different needs, the number of visits varies from person to person--typically six to eight sessions. Some students may benefit from seeing a counselor just one or two times and others may need to see a counselor over a longer period of time.
If you would benefit from longer-term services, you may be given a referral to other Western Michigan University or community care providers.
After-hours assistance
After regular office hours, if you are experiencing an emergent or crisis situation please call Gryphon Place at 211.
If you feel you need to meet with a mental health counselor, you may do so at the Borgess Medical Center Emergency Room at 1521 Gull Road. Borgess Medical Center Emergency Room can be reached at (269) 226-4815. Borgess provides immediate psychiatric assessment and treatment 24 hours a day.
