General
The Western Michigan University School of Music welcomes international students and currently enrolls international students representing over a dozen foreign countries. International students must follow different admission procedures than United States citizens. International Admissions and Services can help prospective international students with all aspects of attending Western Michigan University, including admissions, orientation, visas, language requirements, housing and finances.
Finances
Financial aid for newly admitted international students in music is limited to graduate assistantships and music scholarships. Graduate assistantships are administered by the coordinator of graduate studies in music. Scholarships are determined by audition by the various performance areas in the School of Music.
English requirements
International students from countries where English is not spoken as the primary language must demonstrate competency in English before being admitted to a degree program in music. The most common method of demonstrating this competency is with the TOEFL exam. Minimum TOEFL scores for 51福利社 School of Music programs are as follows:
All undergraduate programs:
- 550 TOEFL, 213 CBT, 80 iBT for unrestricted enrollment
- 500 TOEFL, 173 CBT, 61 iBT for restricted enrollment
Graduate performance, conducting or composition: 550 TOEFL, 213 CBT, 80 iBT
Graduate music education or music therapy: 575 TOEFL, 233 CBT, 91 iBT
